Earlier this week Darren Rowse @ProBlogger.net answered a user’s query "How many posts should I post?" as a blog post here. And he expressed his views about the frequency of blog posts by highlighting the pros and cons of daily blogging.

While I agree with him that there’s no perfect answer, I also feel that it really depends upon your niche, brand and various other criteria. So there could be an answer perfect for one and not for another. You need to find that out by yourself.

When Does Daily Blogging Makes Sense

If you are a full time blogger then daily blogging makes perfect sense as I assume that you track your industry pretty closely and you have got something nice to blog daily.

What To Contribute Daily

Practice. Practice. Practice. And Just make sure that you turn writing into a habit. Then you’ll find that it’s not impossible to contribute a blog post daily to your blog.

Why Authority Blogs Publish Content Too Frequently

What. Why. When.

The primary reason why most bloggers blog daily is to keep their readers active and engaged so that they will comeback everyday to read a new article. Because when we visit an authority blog in an industry, let’s say a tech blog, then we expect a new article whenever we visit their homepage.

And like Darren pointed out the second reason is "more posts mean more doorways into your blog". If you write something worth reading daily then you’ll have 365 blog posts a year and hence it’s more likely that people will come across your articles via Search Engines, Social Media, RSS, etc.

Should You Blog Daily?

Like I said earlier if you’re passionate about what you’re writing and are tracking your niche pretty closely then you can post something interesting daily. It will improve your traffic, readership, branding, etc. as long as you post quality stuff.

If you’re one of those bloggers who is trying to keep their users engaged by posting stupid guest posts, promotional stuff etc. then you’re going to lose your loyal readers over time.

If you genuinely want to take advantage of daily blogging then hire high quality writers and let them contribute content to your blog apart from you alone.

For example, if you have a magazine blog that covers a variety of topics then it makes perfect sense to do daily blogging as your readers expect something new everyday. But make sure the content is rich and useful as their time is also as precious as yours.

How Daily Blogging Can Negatively Affect The Quality Of Your Content

If your blog is a single-author blog then it can affect the quality of your content as you will get obsessed with daily posting. So everyday you’ll compulsively write something and it’s possible that they can be of low quality as good content requires time, dedication, and research.

If you have already noticed I recently started mashups where I post 13 Digital Media Resources That You Shouldn’t Miss. Though it takes less than 10 minutes to write a daily mashup I find it difficult to do a regular blog post along with it. Because finding interesting content also requires time, research, and dedication as I have to make sure that I include only the stuff that you really don’t want to miss.

And don’t forget your life!

Posting something new, engaging, compelling and helpful every day over several years can, over time, begin to feel like a chore – particularly if you have competing pressures of life (family, work, social life etc). – Darren

How important is the frequency of updates on a blog?

In a nutshell: If you’re thinking about for people, then frequency might be a nice thing to have. But whenever you’re thinking about search engines it’s much, much, much more important to think about the quality of your content.

Now Why I Hate Blogs That Post Too Much Content

As a blogger, it’s a really nice strategy to blog daily but as a reader I HATE it as it kills our time by reading unworthy content. You’re doing nothing good if whatever you’re writing is already there on another blog or if you haven’t added any value to your blog posts by giving some insights.

Things are even more worse when you post unworthy content written by your  paid low quality writers or guest bloggers. If you do that then you’re only trying to fool your loyal readers.
